Extraordinary Edwardian Black Opal & Diamond Necklace
One of a kind period necklace for collectors and opal lovers. A spectacular Lightning Ridge opal weighing approximately 20 carats (approximately 1 inch by 1 1/8 inches) is framed by a single row of older cut diamonds leading up to a filigree platinum and diamond motif with an antique cut diamond chain encircling the neck.
The lightning ridge opal fields were discovered in Australia in the 1880s and was mined out by about 1913. A large black opal displaying this amount of red and orange color flash is exceptionally rare and desirable. This collector's jewel is a perfect fusion of Edwardian elegance with a truly phenomenal gemstone.
